What is a VIN Code?
A VIN code (Vehicle Identification Number) is a unique 17-character identification number assigned to every vehicle. It consists of three parts:
• WMI (World Manufacturer Identifier) – manufacturer code (characters 1–3) • VDS (Vehicle Descriptor Section) – vehicle description (characters 4–9) • VIS (Vehicle Identifier Section) – identification number (characters 10–17)
You can find the VIN code on the lower edge of the windshield on the driver's side, on the registration certificate, or on the door pillar.
What Does VIN Lookup Show?
